Charity Quilts
Good Morning fellow quilters,
Once again I am blown away by your generosity. I received 6 more quilts last night, which will be sent off to the charities. Thank you for all the support. I hope everyone saw the Thank You notes in the newsletter from both Hospice and The Angel Network.
Due to too much going on and my senior moments last night, I an unable to put a name with all the quilts. If you gave me one would you please send me an email and a brief description of it, so I can put a name with the picture I will be taking for the bulletin board at the quilt show.
Thanks to all.

STITCHES AROUND THE WORLD
‘STITCHES AROUND THE WORLD’ is the theme of a quilt show from Ellis County, TX. In their hope of involving many other guilds, they invite us to send an 8″ square (before Feb 25) to be included in a quilt they will display next July. If any group or individual (former Texan maybe?) from MVQ is willing to make a block to represent us, please contact Andrea Bursaw.
Fabric for Charity Quilts
Fabric has generously been donated for use in our charity quilts. I will be cutting it into 1/2 yard pieces and it will be at the Charity table at the January meeting. Anyone interested is welcome to take some for use in their charity quilt.
Is there anyone that is interested in getting together to work on charity quilts? If so please let me know.

Minutes of December ’09 Meeting
The Annual Christmas Party Meeting was held on a crisp, cold December 3rd evening.
Many quilters turned out, dressed warmly in holiday garb to celebrate
the season, many chose to come in red to show their holiday spirit.
The evening started with all enjoying a delicious buffet featuring a
wide variety of casseroles, baked ham, chicken, pastas, rice dishes,
salads, and this year members outdid themselves with two entire
tables filled with desserts! No one left hungry and the well prepared
food was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Judy Hilner provided the
centerpieces and the holiday fabric tablecloths from her personal
collection.
The business meeting began at 7:50 pm. President Bursaw covered a
variety of agenda items. She reminded everyone that the notification
of any meeting cancelled due to snow will be listed on the blog as
local tv stations are unable to add our organization to the shear
volume of cancellations that are received. There was a request all
members review the membership list for accuracy and updates should be
reported to Ginny Platt if any corrections are needed.
Other individuals spoke about MQX Providence bus sign up, NH March
retreat event, upcoming quilt show meeting on January 11th at the
Merrimack Library, and the need for donations for the upcoming UFO
auction in February. UFO donations should be brought to the January
meeting.
Carol Robinson brought along information about the Irish flood quilt
relief effort. Final Mystery quilt steps 5 and 6 will be posted the
first of the year. Group sewing dates at the Nevins Library will also
be on the blog when the dates are confirmed.
There were other speakers as well but I sat in the back and had a
difficult job hearing / listening / paying attention and did a
poorer job taking notes as acting secretary. Recommendation is to
check out the blog at: https://mvquilters.wordpress.com/ for details.
Or if you can’t find what you are looking for consider sending an
email to: info@mvquilters.com and ask your questions. Someone will
get back in touch with details (Editorial license taken by LRG)
A brief Show and Tell followed, but no photographers were available.
Cathy Harnisch collected food pantry donations and then introduced
Girl Treble who entertained MVQ members with their acapella Christmas
tunes and some wonderful, sassy oldies.
Meeting was adjourned approximately 9:15pm after a bit of a sing along.
Next Board Meeting – Thursday January 7th at the Plaistow Library 7 pm
Next Quilt Show Meeting – Monday January 11th at the Merrimack
Library 7-9pm

Unfinished Fabric Obsessions-UFO Auction
One month after joining the Guild, 5 years ago, I found myself caught up in the bidding frenzy that occurs every February at the UFO auction. Lots of cool, gotta-have-it stuff!!! YES, good stuff. One particular item beckoned me….a huge box filled with solid colored, polyester and cotton, twill weight fabric; EVERY color of the rainbow, but mainly BRIGHTS! Just Gorgeous I think, no one will want them, its polyester! Being inexperienced, I failed to recognize the gusto, the fevered pitch, the determination of MVQ quilters and I quickly lost the bidding war. I suffered massive bidder remorse, depression, and then was obsessed about my loss. I approached the “winner” to ask to buy her out…..and luck was with me as she quickly said “let’s split it”. And so began the next journey of this FABULOUS fabric which has been sitting in my sewing room since that day, five years ago. Stop me if this story sounds familar.
We all know, you can never have enough fabric, so when inspiration struck this summer …I was READY! I attacked those polyester and cotton textiles with a vengeance. I made: 2 personalized “coloring book” tote bags for the great nephews birthdays, they held all of their gifts and goodies; 16 tote bags to hold personal care items for a battered woman’s shelter (a few great accent fabrics added more pizzazz); 2 larger tote bags for shopping green instead of choosing “paper or plastic”; 3 – 17″ Nancy Crow style pillows for the cabin of our sail boat, highly washable; 2 ditty bags to hold wallets, keys, cell phones and items we didn’t want to lose overboard; 2 large ditty bags for containing spare oak mast wedges and a collection of miscellaneous engine parts; and 4 “superperson” capes for the same 2 great nephews and their super friends.
Phew, I’m done, $5 well spent, and a terrific bargain among many great UFO bargains! While sharing this story I just realized, there are bits and pieces of fabric remaining…..absolutely TOO good to toss….Perhaps my chocolate labrador would like a new dog bed! So I’m back to stitching like mad and thinking maybe the rest of this FABULOUS fabric will show up at this years UFO auction on February 18th ….you know, it is possible. ——————————————————————————–
