June 2018 Guild Meeting
What a great way to end the year. The June guild meeting was fabulous with lots of laughs, information and surprises. First, congratulations to the newly installed Executive Committee. Thank you, Ann Hockmeyer for being the master of ceremonies. Thank you, Stacey Caruso and Sue Spinelli for volunteering to chair the UFO Committee for 2019. They will have more information about where and when to donate items in the fall.
Congratulations to Ann Hockmeyer for being named the 2018 MVQ Quilter of the Year. So well deserved. We call her “Ann of Many Hats”.
Thank you, members, for voting for another $2,000.00 donation to the New England Quilt Museum. Thank you, Gail Forthoffer, for asking for the motion, preparing a detailed budget for 2018-2019 and for meticulously taking care of the MVQ treasure chest.
Bev Valle wants all members to remember to renew your membership by 6/30/2018. We had a By-Law change that changes the date from September to June .
Betty Hastings and Judy Naylor want to remind you that we still need raffle quilt sitters and white glovers for MANCUSO on 8/16, 17, and 18. Please contact them if you are attending the show and can help us out.
Ann Hockmeyer will be chairing the Sew and Know Committee next year. Contact her if you would like to demonstrate a skill or talent. She will also be our “Program” for the September meeting where we will prepare blocks for the next raffle quilt. More information to follow.
The Quilt Show will be here before we know it. Bev Knapp asks that you gather items and prepare Penny Raffle baskets during the summer, perhaps as a group to distribute the cost. Your basket does not have to be quilt related. Minda Fowler is preparing a Fix It Basket and needs someone to join her in completing this basket. Each basket must be wrapped with cellophane or tulle and must have a label with the contents. Jane Hamel is looking for demonstrators. Angie Cyr is looking for donations to the White Elephant room. Mary Wilkes is looking for someone who can distribute Save the Date handouts to some of the quilt shops in Massachusetts. Sign ups are available for the Scissor Sharpener and the workshops; contact Mary Wilkes. Forms for the boutique and ads in the show book are available. Ads and payment need to be sent to Diane Desjardins by 8/1/2018. You will need to renew your membership by the end of June to place a quilt in the quilt show. The deadline to submit your quilt show application is 7/25/2018. You need to complete an application and send it to Layne Rando with a check for $3 (if being judged). Ann Hockmeyer reminds us that you need to complete an application and submit it for the Quilt Show Challenge by 7/25/2018.
Ronnie Longwell encourages that special person who wants to be our next Program’s Committee Chair to step forward before it is too late. We need someone before September or we will not have programs for 2019-2020. Sue Pelland and “Rotary Cutter Applique” is the October program. Sign ups for the workshop are available. Charity quilts for Liberty House and Community Outreach are due at the quilt show and will be shown at the October meeting and presented. Suzi Calderwood handed out kits for items to make for the December Holiday meeting. If you did not get one, please contact Gail Wozniak. The guild trip to the New England Quilt Museum is coming up in July. Please contact Sue Spinelli to sign up for that event. Lots of information and deadlines!
Thank you RaNae Merrill for a wonderful trunk show, demonstration, information and concert!
Have a great summer everyone!!
Elizabeth Swan, President
